National Junior Honor Society
Instructor: Ms. Snyder
The National Honor Society (NHS) and National Junior Honor Society (NJHS) are the nation's premier organizations established to recognize outstanding high school and middle level students. More than just an honor roll, NHS and NJHS serve to honor those students who have demonstrated excellence in the areas of Scholarship, Leadership, Service, Character and Citizenship. These characteristics have been associated with membership in the organization since their beginnings in 1921 and 1929.

At Lewis-Palmer Middle School, students may be invited to apply during the second semester of their 7th grade year, with an induction ceremony in the spring.  Students will participate in NJHS activities as 8th grade students.  Students who transfer into LPMS and have been inducted into NJHS in their former schools need only show proof of membership (such as a certificate or membership card) to join.

To become a member of the Lewis-Palmer Middle School chapter of NJHS, students must exhibit excellence in each of these areas: scholarship, service, leadership, character, and citizenship. Students who have a cumulative GPA of 3.75 or higher will be invited to apply for membership.  Achievement in each area will be demonstrated on the application which is called the Student Activity Information Form. Forms can be picked up from Ms. Snyder, the sponsor, or downloaded from this website.

Please note:  just filling in the application does not guarantee acceptance into NJHS.  Students must have the required GPA and exhibit service, leadership, character and service.  Acceptance will be determined by a panel of teachers based on the application.

Current members of NJHS are expected to maintain the 3.75 or higher GPA and participate in service activities (either through NJHS opportunities at school, or outside of school, such as through other organizations).

Forms available for documenting service hours

Current NJHS members need to continue to do service hours as part of their membership.  During this school year,  members must complete 5 hours of service.  During the summer (between 7th and 8th grade), newly inducted members must do 10-15 hours.  Please see the forms on this website for ideas for service hours and documentation.
